Metric like the rest of the real world. South Africa changed over in the 1974. The country had a 5 year plan fron 1969 with the metrication board and in 1974 on only metric units were allowed to be used. Some of the older generation 70+ might still use it in casual chat.

Now convert the other way around without decimals. Like 500g = 1lb 1.2oz or 1m = 3' 3 and 3/8". It just seems worse than just moving the decimal point. 1m = 10dm = 100cm = 1000mm (deci, centi, milli)

Pity they got the abbreviation for gram incorrect.
