If you have Parent PLUS loans and haven't yet taken advantage of the Double Consolidation Loophole, the deadline to act is quickly approaching.

This move hasn't gotten much attention (for a number of reasons) but it is an excellent opportunity.

There has been a lot of "worst-case scenario" talk with student loans.

Today, lets take a look at cautiously optimistic, but realistic, outcome for borrowers as we look ahead.

REPAYE to the Rescue: How an Old Repayment Plan Could Return and SAVE Borrowers
As the SAVE plan faces ongoing legal battles, the potential comeback of REPAYE provides hope for many borrowers in the form of lower payments and an interest subsidy.

What would a win look like for student loan borrowers on SAVE?

Realistically, the early forgiveness provisions and more generous discretionary income definition are probably gone.

But it is important to remember that the 427 page SAVE regs cover a lot more, some of which could survive.

My attempt at answering the biggest question in the student world right now: Do I stay on the SAVE litigation forbearance or move over to a different IDR plan and start making progress toward forgiveness?

Should I Switch Out of the SAVE Forbearance?
As the SAVE forbearance is likely ending, borrowers face tough decisions. Learn about potential repayment strategies, including IBR, ICR, and PAYE, and what might work best for you.

This is solid advice. The tricky part for borrowers at this time is that we don't know what options will be available for borrowers once the SAVE forbearanace ends.

It's a critical time for borrowers to stay dialed in to student loan news and developments.
To anyone who’s wondering when the SAVE forbearance will end, my answer is to plan on it being January 2025. This isn’t based on any development in the case, just an understanding of the position of the incoming administration related to Department of Education and student loan forgiveness.

There is a huge pothole in my hometown. My parents warned me about it when I was in town, so I avoided it, but it's caused major issues for people who were not warned.

If MY tax dollers are used to fill that pothole, I'm going to be very upset.

In many cases, no.

Check out the IRS rule on the foreign earned income exclusion. If the money you make abroad doesn't get taxed, it doesn't hit your AGI. When you apply for an IDR plan, you can qualify for $0 per month payments until your balance is forgiven.
Hypothetically speaking, do Americans have to pay student loans back if they move to Canada and never come back ever?

There is a cool first day of school vibe here, so I'll take a quick moment to introduce myself and what you will get with a follow.

I've been helping student loan borrowers since 2013. I got started by sharing my reseach into PSLF when my servicer couldn't answer my questions. It grew from there.

After spending over a decade building a social following for Student Loan Sherpa, it is scary to be starting fresh, but also exciting.

If this leads to real dialogue and discussion, the effort will be worth it.

I know there is a ton of concern about what the future holds for student loan borrowers in light of the election results.

It is definitely a setback, but now isn't the time to panic either.

Let's take a look at what it means and what it doesn't mean: studentloansherpa.com/what-trumps-...
What Trump’s Election Means for Student Loans: SAVE, IBR, PSLF, One-Time Adjustment, and More
Borrowers are justifiably worried about their student debt, but even with Trump's Election, many repayment plans and forgiveness options are likely to remain unchanged.
