"everyone who uses X must be an idiot, this word sucks, etc" then you are throwing rocks in the direction of a sleeping beast. it doesn't really matter if it doesn't make sense to you, it's just western social media manners

that is not what i mean😓. YOU are the one telling people that they should mute you without making an effort to hide yourself from search. Basically, if you are asking good faith questions such as "why do people use X term" then thats fine to use the term, but if you are saying something like

That's true, and I'm sure that there are people who ARE doing that, but it's also perceived to be kind of... aggressive? to go "YOU should mute me. I won't make an effort to avoid you." (this is just the perception, not my personal thoughts.)

It's not a taboo to complain, but if all of your thoughts on a specific term or ship are negative, it is best practice to censor it by intentionally misspelling or replacing a letter.
It's something that I've gotten into trouble with on Tumblr as well.

it's because a lot of users don't check tags, but just search the words themselves. i believe that the term valveplug came about back when social media tag and term search were pretty unreliable in general, so an entirely different keyword was created that was easy to search no matter what nonsense-
