Yep. The prep …
Which in my case means mostly doing exactly as I’m told!

Glorious morning here, east of the Dove.
We were up early & walked into town with our rucksacks, to get a few last minute items. Returned loaded down! Now coffee.

The computer explains that a thick mist of microscopic water droplets in the lower atmosphere is reducing visibility. The steadfast oak still showing!

Taken at crack of dawn this morning (Andy Inns’s photo). The Derwent is blasting through, but hasn’t flooded here - worse towards Derby I think.

“Full of eastern promise” as Fry’s confectionary used to say! It’s been dry all day here in Belper, but grey.

The view from the same balcony, 4 weeks later!
The lake has frozen over and the ice won’t melt until April. ❄️❄️❄️

It’s a very odd coincidence that EJ Godwin (Peat Industries) Ltd shares it’s family surname with the pioneer of peatland archeo-ecology, Sir Harry Godwin FRS (1901-1985). Pretty sure Sir Harry would take a dim view of continued peat extraction in the Somerset Levels in 2025! @jackwallington.com

And a hooley incoming!

Correct!
Can’t have Christmas dinner without prunes in armagnac. Also a glass or 2 of extremely sweet white wine in memory of my mother. And then maybe some other options later! 😆

My father-in-law talks fondly about how his family used to collect “Kievit” eggs in the NL 🇳🇱. After the hardships of winter (colder than UK where he lives), it was one of the joys of springtime!

I’m dreaming of a DRY Christmas!

I worked for a decade with subsistence farmers, in various parts of Africa. The thought of factory farming becoming established here does my head in! Wrong on so many levels.

Sorry about your cold, Lindsay. At least you can still admire the view. We’re near Fakenham, in a village called Helhoughton. It’s our friends’ cottage. Very cute, but freezing cold until you get the stove going, and keep it going! So quiet, but past 2 days the rain has set in. Heading home this pm.
