I, uh, have some weird travel habits. I book where it’s cheap to get to rather than where I want to go, often to maximize distance. I figure saturation will get me there eventually, and some of the best places I’ve ever been weren’t on my radar at all, like Iraq and Senegal.

I was in Korea landside for 20 minutes and that’s my only trip to Korea. I’ve also been in the fresh air of Kiribati but only sticking my head out the door (pictured).

Air travel is weird

Yeah but there's "this artist influenced techno" and then there's Wendy Carlos.

Let’s be real, Wendy Carlos influenced techno itself

See this is why I stick to Lunar volcanoes these days. If I have to deal with biology I’m at least getting a Nobel.

I tell people I came a volcanologist because I never wanted to deal with biology and now nature goes and does this. The audacity of these eukaryotes.

Up there with the entire scientific community pretending that "data" isn't singular and ignoring the entire linguistics community explaining how language works.

That 6:3 delegation tips the balance of the House. I’m low on trust for purple states in 2025, and if we’re going to move sciences away from the authoritarians then perhaps it’s best to stay away from places that are authoritarianism-curious, as well.
November 18, 2025 at 5:29 PM
I’m just the right kind of colourblind to struggle telling purples and reds apart, alas.
November 18, 2025 at 5:19 PM
No. No more scientific conferences in red states.

I got stranded in Spain with everyone who knew me asking when they could fly again like volcanologists control the airspace

Phrenology’s back on the menu, I see.

Palantir is named after something considered too evil to effectively utilize in a war. It’s a prophetic choice of company name.

News [sic]
November 13, 2025 at 6:02 PM
Well if the current electorate is anything to go by I’m guessing most of the plan is to ignore the news and not be aware it’s happening.
