Colder next week, and watching for a weak system to approach from the southwest on Thursday — but too soon to expect snow from it.
Weather pattern is favorable for some snow around the 18th or 19th (Sun-Mon) — worth following closely, but nothing to act upon yet.
Risk: 3/10

First time in my career that all of Virginia got accumulating snow from the same storm:
From Cumberland Gap to Wallops Island and from Fairfax to Halifax.
2 feet fell in Roanoke — my first snowstorm as a meteorologist on the air at the NBC station there.

A thin layer of ice crystals in the atmosphere bends the moonlight, and we see that as a circle from here on the ground.
It does not have any supernatural meaning, nor does it reliably forecast oncoming snow.
