I see the point of this. I think the bigger critique is what about everyone else? I don’t think it really needed to be an either / or thing.

I hear this. But it is better for the country (and our souls) to figure out a way to take the policies that seemingly are almost super majority popular and communicate them better, with less culture war dogma, to hopefully start winning again.
