Prime 4's also far from the only game to lock stuff behind amiibo. Samus Returns locked the fusion suit difficulty behind an amiibo with no other possible way to unlock it.

That shit's indefensible I agree but I also think it's a massive over-exaggeration to say that ruins the whole game.

Prime 4 has a drab overworld but Prime 2 jerked you back and forth all the time having to switch between light and dark Aether. The latter having poison air that you'd have to halt progression to regen health in a light sphere only made things take even longer.

I think "shoot it in the foot" is kind of harsh bc I still think Prime 2's backtracking is worse than this

Hoping these are still open next week

Super Metroid's the only game where I think they get backtracking right and even then there's some hiccups like having to loop around maridia twice if you're going for 100%

And tbh I don't think this is a prime 4 specific issue. I think all of the prime games (and a lot of the 2D games) struggle with backtracking but the desert makes it feel a lot worse for prime 4

I actually really like the bike itself and I think when it's in places specifically designed for the bike, it's a lot of fun. It's just that the overworld is so open and empty that there's not much to apply the bike with other than going from point A to point B.

It's kind of interesting how much prime 4 feels like prime 2

Music is amazing. The Super Metroid squad of Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano return and they still fuckin got it, man. Had a moment right before you go to the Volt Forge where I just stared out at the vast landscape for like 5 minutes. I feel like I get one of those moments in every Metroid game.

the overall structure reminds me a lot of Prime 2 considering how Zelda-like progression is in the game. TBH, not a bad thing but I need to play more to get the whole picture.
