My best theory for this is delamination of the resistive digitizer that is placed on top of the LCD. Luckily it should be a super-cheap and fairly simple repair (amzn.to/4hlOkTE)

The internet used to be composed of a lot of online communities with different focuses. Newgrounds counts as one of those, I think. Big social media sites came and swallowed a lot of those up.
