I think it harks back to before PL. Football for fans is tribal. It's about history, and it's about keeping traditions. So Clubs have a 'starting XI' who always play. The trouble is that it isn't 21st-century football. I'm not sure fans have moved on.

Well, obvs, the season we finished 4th. We don't have a deep squad at all. What we do have is 6/8 elite players. Players that are talked about as 'best in the PL/world'. But the other half of our 'best 11' is made up of Murphy, Barnes, J7, Willock, Burn, Pope. Then we have Miggy & Longstaff.
