60 seconds of freedom until Ayra Stark kitty (her actual name) got him. One of my extra males (who was gonna be my dinner) escaped a temp cage while I was cleaning. He flew across the yard beautifully and even managed to find a big brush pile. I was impressed really, for a minute.

Since my big girls have been giving about 5 a day, and my new bunch (twice as many) are due to start laying soon, I decided I better start coming up w ways to eat more eggs. Hard to make deviled eggs from quail eggs so deviled egg salad it is. Recipe doubled, then added more mustard & dill pickle

Moving day! New babies are just 2 days shy of 4 weeks old. Time to go to the big bird building. More feather variations than the last batch. Still 15, even the runt though I’ve lost track of which one that is.

15 babies! Just over a 50% hatch rate. All have survived the first 72 hours. I’m going to need a bigger cage! 🤭

Hatch day was yesterday! Second round of quail for our little homestead. I didn’t get a final count but about 12. They’re fast and move a lot. Once these are grown and laying they should supply all the hatching and eating eggs we need. Next up, a bigger incubator!

The first quail egg! ❤️ Hatched 7 quail from mail ordered eggs. 6 weeks and 2 days later found this gem waiting for me.
