Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather be a pig than a fascist
this should be a tort at least

Biden's victory in 2020 was an electoral miracle. People DID vote and beat the odds spectacularly. And what did Democrats do with that victory? Bombard us with fundraising texts and hang us out to dry.

all you can expect them to do is dunk the ball when there is nobody inside the three-point circle and any other circumstance it is just unreasonable to expect them to score or put up a fight

Is this the only political circumstance when you can actually do a thing, is that what you're arguing, when there is absolutely zero fighting you have to do and zero chance of any opposition

yeah these guys are the kind of people who wouldn't shut up about George W. Bush getting Cs in college as if that was the primary injustice going on there

You don't have to say yes or no right now. You can come back around later.

I especially liked Roottrees' solution because they seemed to clearly aim for replacement assets that emphasized all the sort of small details AI can't get right, as if to let people know they really did follow through on that.

blowback is what the blowback podcast is about

also unfortunate that they're going to have twelve more seasons before they can get to this

It's the only formula-adjacent math thing funny and annoying enough to be a tattoo candidate for me

3 is usually fine! The joke I was going for is that lots of results for an unknown prime p will say p cannot be equal to 2 (especially if your result has anything to do with quadratics but also whenever you need 1 != -1)
November 27, 2025 at 7:20 PM
number theory heads know how bold it would be to investigate the number 2

he knows what we want and he knows he wants it too

That's...! Them literally saying..! It's fine but not in my back yard..!!!
November 26, 2025 at 5:55 AM
Okay I think this might be a source of some of the disconnect here, what do the theories look like that make this prediction? It doesn't seem intuitive that if you own a condo in a densely populated area that you should be that bothered by further development

I think people are confused about Graeber because he was an outsider academic and his books seem poppy and accessible, but they are quite reflective of contemporary anthropology! Debt, for instance, is a great anthropology book that is filling an important hole in accessible literature!
November 23, 2025 at 7:20 PM
Diamond really tells on himself in that sense! He doesn't engage with any actual anthropology, I was going to say after claude-levi strauss but he doesn't engage with strauss or anybody before him either, or even any contemporary history of south america like 'open veins.' He didn't talk to anyone!!

Yeah I think this furthers my Michael Hobbes metathesis that critics and cranks are VERY reliant on you not actually reading the receipts and hoping you just accept what's in the abstract or what they told you the source said.
