Yeah no thanks.

It probably doesn't need saying, but Anthropic’s research he alludes to in no way shape or form substantiates his argument. It merely posits that there are “connections between [features of the AI] – analogous to neuroscientists producing a “wiring diagram” of the brain”.

The Friday event is hybrid, so for folks joining online there’ll be no change.

I’m really stoked about this, and hoping we can reach out to more folks especially through the buzzy new venue at PHIVE.

It’s taken a while to settle the details, as we couldn’t find a suitable venue in Parramatta for Friday nights. So eventually we decided to swap the times around and go to Crows Nest for Friday, while Parramatta at PHIVE is on Tuesday, 6 pm.

But that's a problem they created for themselves, and which they should have to solve. Not just dump their product on the world and expect everyone to deal with it.

More specifically, we should treat tech like any other industry. You can't drive a car on our roads unless you can show that it meets our safety rules. The same should apply to AI. Their problem is that they can never do that because it's impossible to define safety in an open-ended application.

You're right, but at this point *any* regulation sends the signal "we can and will regulate you", so it's better to make a start. I'm no expert in the area but we could begin with looking at the EU.

Well done, in fact.

Yeah, there's this feeling that we have to be grown up and sensible, and this means accepting the realities of neoliberalism. Last CC conference I was at featured a speaker telling us that Chinese industry was going to save us. I'm like, why are we listening to this guy again?

And the implicit admission that we are, in fact, enslaved to phones.

“Environmentalism” has been systematically greenwashed for decades. This video highlights the logic so cleanly: what doesn’t solve the problem must be the solution.
