you should start home labbing
January 4, 2026 at 2:36 AM

find forms of rest that are light on the body and/or mind, but still enjoyable. if you cant take rest everything days, then have mind rest days, body rest days, etc.

thats what id do at least

like i got the editor to write code. like, so that i, me, the one writing this very post, could write code.

a program that writes code for me, the validity of such an endeavor aside, is definitionally a Different Task that should have a Different Program for it.

hot take, i guess

yeah, i have never once thought discord was a good platform. it's simply the only platform. i guess servers were a novel and innovative idea but its buried under mountains of awful ui and ux. the original discord ui didn't even have a border around the application. it hurt my eyes when windowed
January 3, 2026 at 7:46 PM
the first time i used discord i almost crashed out from how much the ui made me wanna kms

thats not a joke, the reaction was VISCERAL

and i STILL FUCKING HATE THAT I CANT PUT DIFFERENT CHATS IN THEIR OWN WINDOWS???? SKYPE DID THIS YEARS BEFORE DISCORD
January 3, 2026 at 7:42 PM
idk discord was always shit but it was the only real option, so realistically the enshittification is more of a fresh layer of manure

i might try vscodium but i saw something that said if you let it update, the ai will come in anyway. basic vscode was what i first installed and holy shit was that an awful experience. i should have took a screenshot. remarkable levels of slop overexposure
January 3, 2026 at 7:40 PM
idk, i instantly closed the page earlier the moment they were advertising the ai features as fundamental
January 3, 2026 at 7:20 PM
i just want a clean, minimalist UI, some nice debugging features, intellisense type autocompletions, and either no AI from the outset or at least a simple single killswitch to disable all ai features. why is this so hard? i just want what code editors were just 4 or so years ago...
January 3, 2026 at 7:10 PM
i got too used to computer working so i started homelabbing so i could have an Extremely Computer to make Extremely Fucked
January 3, 2026 at 4:32 PM
ill do it when i finally get my improved storage solution set up, which is probably next month. i just need to get some 5.25 to 3.5 bay adapters and a SAS controller. at least that's my current thoughts on hardware
January 3, 2026 at 3:41 PM
thats so fucked up

and honestly, reacting like that in response to that is kind of proof that you were probably right and that they didn't have any actual response to what you said
January 3, 2026 at 1:48 PM
oh yeah, also the touchpad is MASSIVE, so massive in fact, that if i try to use the keyboard my wrists will touch the touchpad and cause problems. this seems like a very preventable issue, but i dont know, i dont get paid huge salaries to design flawed products so what do i know?
January 3, 2026 at 1:20 PM
you'd at least think some genius on the team would make a deadzone at the bottom of the pad to resolve the most obvious issue to anyone with half a functioning braincell, but no. not even close. modern hardware fucking disgusts me
January 3, 2026 at 1:18 PM
fortunately disabling almost every touchpad feature made it usable, and frankly made it *worse* than touchpads of a decade ago which actually had buttons because at least then i could tap to left click and still be able to right click AND precisely left click
