Great piece by Kanti Salgadu, Survivor Leader & Advocate, who fought for #AB1362 but would have been excluded from the protections enacted. We celebrate & we keep fighting to protect all workers

Opinion | They took her passport and treated her ‘like property.’ Will a new California law help workers like her?
California's newly signed law regulates recruiters of foreign workers to cut down on human trafficking, a form of modern slavery.

It’s been 1 month without FY25 TVPA funds. 100+ trafficking victim grants expired 9/30, leaving 5,000 survivors without lifesaving support. Tell DOJ: restore services & release funds 👉 https://bit.ly/4gFNhyx

Survivors don’t need rescuing—they need to be heard. The NYT piece on Figueroa St. ignores survivor-led voices. We urge @nytimes & @latimes to center survivors and their healing. #SurvivorVoicesMatter

USCIS está negando más visas T a sobrevivientes de trata de personas de las que aprueba. En lo que va del año fiscal 2025: 1,224 aprobadas, 1,710 negadas. Los sobrevivientes merecen algo mejor. Alza la voz. Etiqueta a tus representantes. #TVisasImportan #ProtejamosASobrevivientes

Children become vulnerable to trafficking when they are separated from their families with no safety net

#AB495 provides a safety net & safeguards to protect against abuse, exploitation and #humantrafficking

We urge @CAgovernor to sign today

No parent should fear being separated from their child. @CAGovernor, sign AB 495, a bill gives parents the legal power to protect their children. It’s on your desk — the time to act is now.
📞 Call 916-445-2841 and say:
“I support AB 495 because it will keep families together.”

AB 1362 is now law — a first-in-the-nation step to prevent immigrant labor trafficking.

Now comes the hard part: ensuring enforcement and expanding protections until every visa worker is covered.

California just made history.
@governor.ca.gov signed #AB1362, the first law in the U.S. to regulate foreign labor recruiters—protecting 40K+ workers from exploitation and trafficking.

A big step forward, but awareness is key and more work remains to expand protections to all.

Last night @governor.ca.gov signed AB 1362, closing a decade-long accountability gap.

Now, CA can stop labor trafficking at the source—a first step toward protections for all workers.
