When people say that I usually respond with “so you see how playful it is? How dramatic? How to the point? Comparing work to children’s isn’t a bad thing. Did you ever feel joy looking at a child’s painting? Is that something we should keep out of museums?”

Still life can help absolutely. But subject doesn’t always matter. If you practice your observation skills, it should translate to anything you make.

Don’t talk about it. Just focus on community efforts that benefit everyone. Even if some people get upset at Facebook that you’re helping the homeless, or creating safe spaces, or cleaning the environment, don’t engage. Don’t speak about it being political. Focus on bringing people tgthr.

Self portraits is a good go to. Mess around in sketchbook. Draw anything you want. Draw what you love. Draw what you hate. And draw badly.

What I see is lines rushing to connect but are forced to be parallel. I also see how people are in the maze of life looking for connection maybe you find them and maybe they have a different idea of how to exit the maze, maybe they come with you for a while, maybe you turn around and they’re gone.
