One of my favorite photos of a female cardinal - they seem to pop in the bright overcast days after a snow storm.

From a few years ago another western visitor - western kingbird. It’s my understanding this individual did not survive after many people saw it. A sad reminder how a mistake in flight patterns can be costly.

I love Horned Larks. They are beautifully marked and bring a bit of brightness to a drab winter landscape. Feasting on seeds, they work areas in flocks. Sitting quietly in my parked car, some individuals will approach closely and allow their photos to be taken. #bird #nature #wildlife #photography

Took a drive out to my fave birding location as we have been graced with the presence of a rare visitor. Back of camera cell pic of a Townsend’s Warbler feeding in cedar trees.

Sunset over the harbor a few years back. Loved the play of color on the clouds.

Shearwaters feed on the open ocean. These two seen from a whale watching boat represent a Great Shearwater (dark bill) and a Cory’s Shearwater (yellow bill).

My first encounter with a Razorbill from a whale watching boat a few years back.

Fox Sparrows are returning to the area. This handsome one showed up a few years ago. A friend has one that appeared yesterday in her yard.

A favorite image I used for anniversary cards. Swan in golden hour mist.

This one needs a caption! Ruddy Turnstone calling. These handsome shorebirds frequent a few of my favorite shoreline spots. The feed on mollusks and invertebrates. #bird #shoreline #birding #birdwatching #photography #nature

Memory from a few years ago of a Rusty Blackbird that visited along with a large flock of grackles and Red Wings. Fantastic birding serious decline due to habitat loss.

This morning fire in the sky that lasted only two minutes. Wish I could have gone to the shore for photos along the beach.

American Pipet - a late fall bird in my area. This one patiently posed not far from me. #bird #wildlife #nature #photography #birdwatching

Winter birds are about the only good thing this season brings for me. Not a fan of the cold. The aptly named Snow Buntings come to the shoreline in flocks feeding on fallen seeds. These two were seen at a town park trying to dodge the many humans stepping through their foraging areas.

Faint northern lights last night.

Chipmunks have been working double overtime stockpiling for the winter. This little one was photographed during the summer showing those full cheek pouches. I’m sure it deserves a funny quote!

When you had a less than productive day birding but end it with a Peregrine Falcon.

One of my very early morning ventures to photograph a sunrise gave me an opportunity to enjoying this early bird at golden hour - Ruby-crowned kinglet - looking for tidbits in the rocks of the wharf. #bird #nature #wildlife #photography

Winter makes me blue. Only good thing is the return of winter birds like many duck species. Harlequin Ducks are a fave to see. #bird #duck #photography #wildlife

A happy little Golden-crowned Kinglet. One of two species local to me that forages for insects. #kinglet #bird #wildlife #nature #birdwatching #photography

The Merlin is a small falcon recognizable by their dark facial mask and dark coloring. Amazing little hunters. This one was seen in the late day hours at a favorite birding spot. #merlin #bird #falcon #birdwatching #photography #nature #wildlife
