Agreed. A game can have VN elements, but easy rule of thumb: controlling a character in a 3D space = not a VN game

I mean even Ocarina of Time has a linear story with click-to-advance dialog, but nobody would consider that a VN because there is so much more to the game than just the cutscenes

Seems to me the VN mention indicates "There is an actual story here, it's not just idle gardening"

FWIW, visual novels can be surprisingly linear. There is even a whole subset called kinetic novels that don't give players any choices, and the player merely presses a button to advance the story
