Geralt always felt like a bit of a blank slate in W1 and W2, which makes sense given his amnesia. What carried the games for me was the worldbuilding and quests—especially in W3. I'm mixed on Ciri as I never really connected with her character, but as I pointed out, that doesn't matter much to me
