I'm completely for people getting the mental health care they need & for building supports for people recovering from addiction, facing homelessness, etc. But anyone who knows anything about America's history with institutionalization can't support Trump's idea. It would absolutely be weaponized.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

They're not all complacent. Sen. Van Hollen & Rep. Jamie Raskin have both spoken at rallies near me in MD. Van Hollen was also out there with gov employees fired by DOGE. AOC & Bernie were holding rallies across the country.

🙄 I never said that. I just want is to be part of the equation. When you do a study about if standard time or DST is better, don't assume everyone going to bed at 10 & getting up at 7. Society decided going to bed late & getting up late means someone is lazy with no discipline so we're left out.

2/2 Rising early in the US is associated with being virtuous & hard working whereas going to bed later & rising later is seen as laziness and a moral failing. Actually IMO we're all just built differently & no morality should be attached to it. But the US revolves around early birds ninetheless.

The study that the science was based on assumed those sleep hours. Read the article. From what I've seen, the number of true night owls may be as high as 30%, possibly more than true early birds, with most people in between, but more research is needed. 1/2

You just look up the time difference.🤷 I lived in Japan for 2 years. Sometimes I was 12 hours off from home, sometimes 13. You get used to it.

How about a study that considers night owls in the equation. Assuming 10pm - 7am sleep schedule is hilarious. You say we don't need sun at 10pm in summer. I say we DO need sun when we aren't at work in winter. I wake up in the dark, sun is up when I get to work, and it's setting when I leave work.

I'm not, but thanks for your assumption.🙄 FWIW I think "I want to spend less time online" is a perfectly good reason. It's specifically trying to avoid AI's bad definitions that doesn't make sense to me, because there are non-AI sources online. Enjoy your paper dictionary & have a good night.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses, but this is the 1 I understand least. You can use the Merriam-Webster app or go to the website. Or Google "define: [word]" and it gives the OED definition at the top plus links to dictionary websites. Plenty of ways to get an AI-less definition online.

It's horrible that even more people may get cut than already have. For those who keep their jobs, I hope the parties can agree to give them back pay when the shutdown ends.

I worked in a school with autistic kids who were average or above average intelligence and all speaking. So many had horrible experiences at previous schools. It was awesome to see them make friends & become comfortable being themselves. But they still had plenty of misunderstandings.

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

Firing all of the "non-essential" employees who would get furloughed wouldn't be feasible. During a shutdown basic government services cease. Like, national parks close, nobody answers the helpline at the IRS, Social Security, & Medicare offices... There was one in 2018. It was a massive problem.
