The tragedy in #Nepal is very quickly turning into a remarkable instance of youth power. I am following so many Nepali and Bhutanese Nepali diaspora protesting Nepal's actions, from the (now revoked) bans on internet apps to the violent responses by the govt. #DiasporaSolidarity #GenZNepal power

If you have the opportunity to go to the FENIX migration museum, Rotterdam, do not miss it. It was such an honor to visit it with Ram Karki, whose story about fleeing Bhutan is one of its incredible exhibits. Here we are pictured with his ceremonial Bhutanese outfit, that he wore before expulsion.

@ramkarki.bsky.social and @germac.bsky.social were wonderful hosts to my talks in The Hague on my book on the Ecosystem of Exile Politics with @cornellupress.bsky.social. Gratifying to discuss the power of proximity and the problems of precarity. Too much alliteration, but still!

What word describes the feeling when you present your work for a community whose stories have been entrusted to you? The Bhutanese refugee community of Ashton-Under-Lyne welcomed me so warmly, and the stories I shared were their stories. Humbled.

I watched this remarkable play recently, which tells an extraordinary story about the intersection of progress and tradition through the lenses of food justice and gender justice. So relevant for my research and for my teaching!

I spent 16 years researching #BhutaneseRefugees and how, for many years they tried, without success, to return to Bhutan after their explusion. How very sad that a few are now back in Bhutan, but only after they were deported from the US. The ironies are so myriad I cannot quite untangle them yet.

What an honour to speak on The Minefield, a radio show that hosts Australia's most erudite thinkers. No idea how I made the cut. Here I am joining the inimitable Scott Stephens and Waleed Aly, talking about despair. (I come on about halfway through). www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...
Ramadan: Should we avoid despair, or can it give rise to hope? - ABC listen
The political climate over the last six months in much of the world has been undeniably dark. It’s little wonder that so many people seem to have given in to despair. The causes of this prevailing co...

What a privilege to present my book -- 16 years in the making -- to the community that I researched for those 16 years. How wonderful that they felt heard. Today, I am a bit more joyous thanks to the wonderful Bhutanese community of South Australia. @cornellupress.bsky.social

Visited Bangalore Palace as part of #MasterOfSocialJustice @sydneyuni.bsky.social Interesting, but way too much showcasing of European art; not enuf of the Indian stuff. #Spain 's King Alfonso fled here and left Moorish art as thanks! Lesson? Kings protect other kings, not their own citizens. Sigh.

From #MSJ #FoodJustice tour in south #India: Juice King in Bangalore only uses carved out fruits as cups at his 100% sustainable juice stand. My fave: grape melon juice in a hollowed out musk melon. Also, guava chili juice. Heaven. And env friendly. @seisydney.bsky.social @sydneyuni.bsky.social
