A lot of people read the article but failed to pick up its message. Being the enraged embodiment of what the right fears, combined with a “we’re coming for you” message will not work. Make them fear their own. Promote content that shows real life situations. Laugh at right-wing hyperbole.

I wouldn’t want war between the U.S. and Canada - and I don’t want to see both U.S. and Canadian citizens suffering severe economic harm.

But, at the same time, it feels so wrong not to decry right-wing authoritarianism. Especially from a nation as powerful as the U.S.

I understand. It makes my skin crawl. I take heart that our PM is careful to restrain his praise to actual good things without giving any praise for the multitude of disgusting fascist actions Trump has taken. I’m glad I’m not the one trying to find the balance. I’d never get any sleep.

We are on the cusp of renegotiating the North American Free Trade Deal. Canada isn’t going to shoot itself in the foot. We need a stronger economy and time to diversify before we can start throwing our weight around. Cause right now, we’re just a mosquito Trump can swat away.

Trouble is, if we don’t do business with them, we’ll have no way to fight them in the future. We are diversifying. We are building our military. We are expanding our economy. But it takes more than a few months to make us strong enough to stand with Mexico in North America. We need to buy time!
