Wow. Interesting. That is the kind of reporting I learned to expect from you. But aren't all those workers being flown back already? So the extra costs, I wonder what they amount to?
In related news I'm glad to see that the chaos is actually getting through to even Trump voters:

Rubio is relatively sane for a Trump appointee, but is he aping Trump's strange I-just-pooped-my-diaper stance here as he pretends to take seriously threatening war against Panama

Are these hurricane winds in wildfires a new and unexpected risk? I've not seen higher winds projected from climate change by the IPCC.

We're on our own. Fortunately this country's had few so far so insurance likely pays when it's our turn, and I've been thinking since CA (former home) went up, how I'd rebuild our wood house in our one-exit forested hillside. Stucco or tiled walls and a VERY large!!! area of tiling ALL around ! 🤣

I think the self-aggrandizing enshittification has already spread from X to TikTok; when a not yet even president overturns a week old SCOTUS ruling banning TikTok by fiat

So wind turning a turbine is the same way a coal plant generates electricity. Both simply make a turbine rotate. Except where the turning motion is wind-driven in wind energy, in coal plants, steam from boiling water, by burning coal is needed to make the coal plant turbine turn.

The 'mills' in windmills refers to their pre-energy use in 16th century Holland - to mill corn. The wind turned the blades and in the building underneath, that motion caused the corn to get milled (ground)
Today's wind turbines are different. The motion drives a turbine that generates electricity

You are obviously very ignorant. Liz Warren is the epitome of good government. Why do you think the first order of business of the Project 2025 manifesto is - get rid of her Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?? And how many Senators can say that they created an agency?? Let alone one for good.

That's all? Yeah, but seems to be taking a while with Elon though. Unless Trump is in a position where he can't move. But I thought you maybe had an inside bead on how Peron went down...

And I blocked one of the starter packs: a single troll. The other starter pack is the real Bluesky team. Does that mean they try to glean inside info on mod technique to use against bluesky? Or so we'll reflexively block our own Bluesky team? I really am ignorant about this sort of thing

That's really not what the evidence shows. She got very close to beating him, he won the pop vote by only 1.55%. And it was closest in the 'must get' swing states. In a 3 month campaign she had no time to shore up the rest.

A must reread is William Steigs stories as much for the droll drawings as the story, but I still sometime realize I am "falling into a deep green sleep" like one of his characters, probably Pearl Pig here who finds a bilingual bone which helps Pearl avoid becoming some else's dinner

A great example is Paul Jennings a very funny Aussie author featuring magical hilarious characters and logical improbable realities. I read them as an adult like I enjoy Calvin and Hobbs. Only afterwards, reading the dust jacket realized it's for kids - immediately sent a copy to my granddaughter

In some ways this IS America. Davy Crocket was a much loved outlaw figure. So were Bonnie and Clyde. And many early settlers were kind of already MAGA scum ejected from the UK and Ireland according to this - I highly recommend - really interesting account :
