I wonder if she bribed the foxes to steal the old one, just to get a fancy new pink harness for the new year.

Can I suggest On The Town and even Some Like It Hot. My nieces love both of them.

Hope you might start your own podcast, Robin. I was a long term Monkey Cage listener but I admire you for doing the right thing.

The Madeira Rum House is well worth a visit

Had it done and didn't need an engineer visit. Just swapped the BT hub for a different one and plugged the main landline phone into the back of the hub instead of into the normal phone socket. The other extension phones then all worked OK. No issues so far.

It's a turnip, neep or tumshie in Scotland.

The unforgettable smell of burning turnip!

Similar traditions in central Scotland. The smell of singed turnip is the smell of Halloween!

Congratulations! Very well deserved.

I'd also say that my 'general domestic activity' could include malting/brewing as it is something I'd think was a regular activity, it's just that it would be very difficult to find definitive evidence.

I did that report 7 years ago so I'm not sure I'll be able to add much now. I don't have any access to the material either as I'm a self-employed archaeobotanist, so I sent it back years ago. However, more than happy to try to answer any questions. I've sent you a 'chat' message with my email.

There was no evidence for the grain having been malted.
July 9, 2025 at 7:02 PM
What types of things should we be looking for? Sprouted grain is really uncommon so I'm wondering if there is anything else that might be a flag?
July 9, 2025 at 12:20 PM
Yes, what I meant was the carbonised assemblages were what you would expect from more general domestic activity. There weren't any big caches of grain and the structure wasn't destroyed by fire, so not like other timbered halls.
July 8, 2025 at 8:30 AM
The carbonised cereals weren't particularly abundant in any context and the only unusual find was apple pips. There were some reasonably big concentrations of hazelnut shell but nothing spectacular! It all looked quite 'domestic'.

Neither the botanical report or the animal bone report suggested feasting, so don't know where that came from. The full report is at www.archaeologyreportsonline.com/PDF/ARO60_Ca...

It's the same with buying wool and knitting/crochet...two completely separate hobbies!
