Some evenings, Kyoshi (the dark one) insists on SINGING THE SONG OF HIS PEOPLE so I’ll let him in the linen closet. And since Molly sleeps during the day and our tiny emotional manipulator knows that, he and his brother get closet time.
Two cats curled up among towels in a wood-lined linen closet. On the left is a grey and black tabby with large white areas on muzzle, chest, and legs, looking relaxed. On the right is a tightly curled dark brown colorpoint gremlin glaring at me for disturbing his closet time.

Natchitoches is an excellent one, really!

Virginia has counties that work:

Henrico (hen-RYE-co) County
Botetourt (BOT-uh-TOT) County

This is the opposite scenario:

If you pronounce Versailles, Kentucky exactly as it is written—you’re a local.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Doing postdoc field work in southern Louisiana, I was never concerned about gators. But signs of a wild hog wallow put me on red alert.

Sounds like a German liqueur.

The title and premise is cheesy, but there's some great video of the two-phase wind-up and pitch dispersal mechanism ferns use.

Missing a reagent today when my undergrads came in, so instead of the plan, I taught them how to do leaf peels to measure guard cells and also showed them how to use the EVOS fluorescence microscope.

And anyway, that's how my students learned that the annulus on fern spores is autofluorescent. 😁
Low quality image of a fern sorus (species unknown). The image is an overlay of a black and white brightfield image of the leaf lamina and bright green fluorescence within the sorus. The green straplike semicircles are part of the spore dispersal system that literally cocks and throws them like a baseball pitcher, and are autofluorescent due to presence of the polymer sporopollenin.

See? I'm taking this as a second.

All in favor?

All opposed?

Excellent. Motion carries!

Working on a bloödcheëp shirt. I'm proud of those letters.
A black tshirt design with a bald red cardinal in a circle surrounded by flames, with the word bloodcheep in red death metal style letters above it.

Think* should be in that question somewhere. *sigh*

Saw this just now, and was curious if you had a take. Do you juvenile therapods would chew on their own tails? Would other dinosaurs?

Deepest condolences to VA Del. @CandiMundonKing on the tragic loss of her daughter. As VA Del. @MichaelWebert says, this is a reminder of""the humanity beneath the fights"... bluevirginia.us/2025/10/mond...

Un-frigging-believable. I have waited for something like this for so long!

I dunno, I’m rather fond of friend chicken!
sutherlandbl.bsky.social
Given that I know what town you all are visiting, I’m pretty sure I know exactly what intersection you passed through.

Also, it’s ironic because literally the best fried chicken in that area is none of those. Try Wayside.

Ah, I see! That was a rhetorical question. 😁

a) Forcing Fed workers to quit is a feature, not a bug, as far as DJT is concerned.

b) The several hundred thousand currently unpaid workers in the DMV are all supposed to go...where, exactly?

This maybe wasn't something you needed to opine on, Daulfus.
sutherlandbl.bsky.social
And yes, Federal workers will get back pay. A lot on contractors may not.

And besides, how many of you work where your boss can just unilaterally decide to pay you with an IOU?

How Kyoshi feels about his mother having to proofread documents for Congress for no pay this past week:
A male colorpoint cat with black face, ears, and paws and dark brown body is crouched on top of an old copy of the Congressional Record. His eyes appear to be glaring and his ears are flat.

When you're proctoring an exam and all of a sudden there is a kerfuffle and then a STOMP.

And you go back to investigate and remove the now dead lanternfly...
