I’ve just learned that today is International Tea Day. This was my grandmother and part of one of her tea sets. She was the practical daughter of an Irish doctor, but also loved writing poems and stories.

It’s the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth this year. Chatsworth in Derbyshire is the model for Pemberley in ‘Pride and Prejudice’. I was lucky to visit it a couple of years ago.

This is the side view of Chatsworth house in Derbyshire. There is a gravel path and, on the left, a large yew forms various mounds. Chatworth was supposed to be the influence for Pemberley in Jane Austen‘s novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’. I was lucky to visit Chatsworth a couple of years ago. It is a beautiful place, owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and in the library they have a first edition of Jane Austen’s famous novel.

This is a photograph of the steps leading down to the maze at Chatsworth house in Derbyshire, England. The maze replaced a vast glasshouse after the First World War, when it became very expensive to heat those sort of buildings.

I was very lucky to visit Chatsworth a couple of years ago, and I was impressed by the garden.

The main character in my dual timeline mystery series unearths family secrets. I went with some of my relations to track down our own ancestors last week in Tipperary.

The photograph shows two of my relations in an old graveyard in County Tipperary. It is a beautiful sunny day and the grass looks very green!

We were searching for our ancestors who used to live in a house in the area and it was quite a walk across the field from the road to get there.

The graveyard has a very old ruined church but was a lovely peaceful spot. I think we will have to go back again because it takes quite a while to read the inscriptions on the weathered headstones. An enjoyable day out!

Sadly I can only grow Camellias in a container because of our limey soil. Lots of lovely Camellia trees in the ground at Emo Court in Co Laois, Ireland this week. 💚

March and April are the busiest sowing months in my garden. Already seedlings are popping up above the soil. Tomatoes, cucumber, potato, rocket, broad beans and salads are appearing, but I admit I have a greenhouse.

This little white dove flew into a garden belonging to friends of mine and has decided to stay. It follows the cockerel and hens around during the day, and roosts with them at night!

Looking out of a tower in Normandy, France. The landscape is so like Ireland that the area is called La Petite Irlande. Take the ferry to Cherbourg and turn left!

‘Ripley’ the thriller series. Did you see it? Atmospherically shot in black and white, starring Andrew Scott. I won’t be inviting Mr Ripley to my house any time soon. Loved it.
