Hi all, I’m a realistic pencil drawer, mainly working in black and white. Here is a completed piece ‘Object’ and a work in progress 1/3 entitled ‘Lace’.
This piece is called Object. It is a realistic drawing in pencil, monotone with a dark black background around the figure. The central figure is in the middle slightly moved to the left. With only her head and shoulders in the frame. A women has an older flower patterned lace cloth draped over her face. The embroidered words Object cover her eyes. Her hands are reaching up towards her face touching around the cheek area as if trying to recognise herself. This piece is raising awareness of domestic violence. Object has two meanings; one to object, as in ‘stop’ I do not consent and two to become an object because of the abuse you have suffered taking away your humanity and will. This piece is entitled ‘Lace’ first in a series of 3 images. This piece has a black women looking towards you with an old flowery lace wrap covering her eyes tied around the back the lace then falls to her shoulder’s. The picture is drawn in pencil, monotone with a dark black background. Lace is about the limitations that are placed upon women because of our gender. The lace symbolises the veil of society, stereotypes and expectations that won’t allow us to fully embrace what the world has to offer. It is a concept that plays across all cultures, races, countries and religious beliefs, to varying degrees.
