I was in HS from 87-90, was a blond tomboy (long hair though) who played drums and fell hard for my artist best friend. I didn't get the guy or the earrings and hocked the drum kit for books in college but I still think Hughes is a genius who understood us better than any other adult ever.

Masterson (as Watts) created probably one of John Hughes’ best characters…although she would not have wanted the diamond earrings at the end. Instead, Watts would have told Keith to return the earrings and save for the future.
