Believer in communities + collaboration. . Excited by all things careers, skills, data and cake. Team Leader with Skills Development Scotland. All views my own.
I love what Kate says about optimism in leadership and being optimistic about our places. It's not blind naivety, there's real power in positivity and ensuring communities KNOW we believe in them.

Visiting one of my fab team in school this morning. As her door sign says, careers advisers wear many hats and there’s no doubt in my mind that widening access to these skilled professionals is *essential* in improving economic inactivity UK -wide #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs

I adore our Social Flock windows - local art showcasing our work supporting families and clothing circularity in Perth and Kinross. A little charity making a big impact 👊

It’s just such a privilege to be part of Social Flock, a Perthshire charity supporting a circular economy and mitigating the impact of poverty by providing preloved clothes to families across the LA. Demand for our services continues to increase, as does our determination to make a difference 👊👚🧣🧢

Last day in Austria where the fabulous ‘Citizens’ has been my book of choice for the week. A hopeful, energising, human read.

A favourite from 2024 - a report with important implications for career education and guidance. The need for high quality, consistent and accessible local support has never been higher.
By 2022, people in their early 20s were more likely to be economically inactive due to ill health than those in their early 40s.

An important shift: from having the right answers, to having the right questions. Thanks Edoardo Pallaro!

Big day for devo & localism: the English Devo White Paper starts important discussion about practical routes to meaningfully redistribute power & rewire public services & ££ across places.

We need to focus on scale for impact regions-local-community. Full @wearenewlocal.bsky.social response here:
While the English Devolution White Paper makes important headway in decentralising power, reform needs to be purpose-driven, rather than simply structures-driven.

Low-income workers are less satisfied with their jobs than high-income workers.

We asked some of them why that might be.

One of my wonderful team made me (made me!) a hedgehog chocolate orange cover for Christmas. There’s a chocolate orange in there and I don’t think I’ve ever received a more perfect gift 🦔 🍊
