Yeah that's what caused the amusement. It's certainly a strong opening for a Bernard Right-on gag.

It's certainly no Yom Kippur. About 10 years ago three of us went into a pub for lunch, it was freezing cold. Had Soup of the day with a cob & a bowl of chips. All of us fancied it. So a Jew, a Muslim & a vegetarian all enquired what it was. "Pea & Ham". The waitress was confused by the hysterics.

The only person I've ever known being mildly offended was a Jehovah's witness, she would explicitly remind people not to give her a Xmas card. Muslim mate would write cards as well. The confusion on people's faces when receiving them for the first time was a source of mild amusement.
