Book is called Oath Breakers by Mathew Gabrielle and David M. Perry and its about the downfall of the Holy Roman Empire, but most importantly its about medeival uses of propaganda and how nation states are often built on lies. Read it its entertaining educational and really unsublte.

In the above post is a link to a petition you can sign as well as more information. The reasoning behind this movement is the usually pornographic content argument, which is unfair and bullshit. So I encourage you to sign the petiton.

Yeah, unfortunately that happened with classic punk too. It makes me so mad to see punk and grunge outfits included on the Paris runway.

Fair, but I've seen writers use the genre as antindustrialst messaging, so maybe the people that latched onto him just use it better than he intended, also after doing more research on it it seems people did tend to use it in a more punk way than the creator intended.

Also just wanna say I agree with you, but I think its unfair to treat steampunk as just an esthetic when it is in fact anti indulstrialist environmental messaging.

So I'm pretty sure the reason people view steampunk as just an esthetic is the same reason they view cyberpunk the same way. All they see is the cool visuals and don't bother to read deeper into what those visuals mean.

I thought steampunk was a critique of the way the exceedingly fast evolution of technology caused by new technology and the rampant capitalism and consumerism that resulted from the industrial revolution was destryoing out environment. Which is why it is set in Victorian times or uses that esthetic.
