Now that I’ve seen the instructor’s explanation (bsky.app/profile/kiss...), I’d say the “offensive” comment was somewhat misleadingly emphasized in the article. That said, faculty shouldn’t criticize offensiveness without referring to specific rules that the offense violates.

It’s a terrible essay, but if the instructor was quoted accurately (justifying the grade by the essay being offensive), I think she has a good case to claim viewpoint discrimination.

I wouldn’t discard the possibility that these morons want to do crimes, but lack creativity to come up with them without asking AI to give them an example of an illegal order.

You’re absolutely right that I am no Chaplin, but that’s beside the point. In fact, your first sentence suggests that we agree on his greatness, and perhaps even on GD’s contribution to it. And whether he regretted making it has no bearing on whether it was a grown-up thing to do.
