Oh, I just remembered: last summer I got an email from Google about how Gemini could assist me even if Gemini Apps Activity was off. There was also something about saving phone and messages activity I can't find now. I've installed an alternate phone app and a text app that are not tied to Google.

I'm not getting the emails, but I did get some previously that informed me about how I'd be using Gemini. You can disable it, but it's a pain in the ass. I don't remember everything right now, but part of it's choosing Google Assistant for your assistant; and disabling a bunch of "smart" features.
