Air pollution science and policy, classical music, films, Tagore, coffee, literature, Chemistry, amateur baker...... In that order
November in Delhi. When coffee is nice with a slight nip in the air. But you need an N95 to even go to your neighborhood cafe as breathing is dangerous to your life.

Shubho Bijoya. Celebration of victory of good over evil!
Life pulled a number on me this year. Lost an organ, fought a hard illness, now limping back to new normal. In all this,I continued to work, sing, read. I was cocooned @ home. Thanks to friends, colleagues & well wishers. This too shall pass.

One more flyover would solve the problem they said.......ah well !

Kolkata through my eyes. Cranberry flavoured cold brew and the last few yellow taxis.

Ones that still exist - all emit black smoke.

So long and thanks for all the fish !

Solar panels and EV charging points at about 9000 feet around the Nanda Devi National Park in Uttarakhand. Sustainable solutions in the mountains

Near Nanda Devi National Park. My third national park trip in India. Did more than a dozen in the US.

There are concerts and performances. But none like this. Saksham group performing Tagore songs. All of these young kids are differently-abled, but look at the mastery of the instruments and Tagore's verses. The Bard would be pleased.

Belated Rabindra Jayanti celebrations in my neighborhood

I had no idea that Punjab had sunflower fields. Mostly barricaded with barbed wire. Acres of gorgeous yellow with mustard and sunflower crops. Seen here - a green patch at sector 17, Chandigarh

Loving the meltdown, the so-called upper caste folks in India are having right now. The censor board has asked to remove reference to caste - in a movie about a social reformee couple Savitribai and Jyotirao Phule.

Guess what is the movie about? Caste and social injustice 200 years ago.

Clean air and blue skies in Delhi. If you are around, do check out the new underground museum at Humayun's Tomb.

Summers have arrived in Delhi. After two weeks of mild spring. Watch this space as the mercury rises and the city becomes unlivable again
March 9, 2025 at 4:12 AM
I thought I was dreaming, but it's true. Delhi is experiencing an actual Spring season. With blue skies, a mild nip in the air, and pleasant days.

Spring in New Delhi hits different with Bombax cieba blooming along with other plants.
The only time when my city is livable.

Quick walk with family and friends

Screenshot from X. Heard they re-released Satyajit Ray's classic "Nayak" in theatres.
I hope they re-release "Ganshatru" , a film so pertinent in today's times.

Without saying anything about the incumbent party that was beleaguered this election or the one that will come to power in Delhi,

I am happy that air pollution became a major issue amongst citizens. None of the parties took it up, but people did!
To clean air and blue skies for saddi Dilli

Spending the weekend at a coffee plantation with blue skies, fresh air and very little internet

As Indian cities become carbon copies of each other, with loads of development, construction and glass buildings, many are losing their distinctive identity.
Bhubaneswar, Odisha was a breath of fresh air with these beautiful street arts dotting the city. Both major roads and minor roads. (1/2)

Bottoms up with a different kind of drink. Punjabi lassi (rose flavoured yoghurt drink) served in an earthen pot, with a dose of malai and gobhi parantha in Amritsar!

Amul pays tribute to the iconic Kolkata taxi.
I would love it if they do a cartoon on the better air quality as well!

Only in Kolkata will a hotel lobby have books. Old pot boilers and pulp fiction, but books nevertheless

It's Samkranti today. Another of the dozen festivals across regional calendars.

I made "patishapta" last year, as I got a new job offer. Thin, sweet crepes w. coconut & jaggery filling, glazed with a mild syrup. Delicacy!

I am lazy this year. Storebrought from a local sweetmeat shop will do it.
