I had poor hearing either from birth or after chicken pox at age 2. I can’t hear a smoke alarm even with hearing aids.
Your comment about all the noises is how my husband feels about wearing his HAs so he doesn’t and I have to shout at him.

Your hearing must have been going for a long time for these noises to be so distracting to you. I just read a post from a person who got Cochlears that she could hear the bubbles in her soda several feet away. I would love to hear like that.
