Even when we finish that, I'm gonna stay online to finish the rememberances and maybe platinum it. The loop is really damn good

Like many others have said, SMT has a really great character to it. It's a world full of demons and everyone acts like it: encounters are challenging, demons sass and harass you, most humans you meet are weirdos. Extremely light on plot and characters, but it's a fun world to inhabit. Highly rec 4

Loving homage to so many classic mecha anime and shmups, absolutely killer soundtrack and a great narrative gimmick intertwined with the die, learn and retry loop. May you achieve enlightenment.

I got progressively more excited with every word in the genre description. Game design is the one place I'm very eager to see a word salad

Ys 2 is worth the time afterwards. 1 and 2 are basically the same game, and they're both so light and breezy to get through

Really enjoy the palette similarities between Shion's jacket and the E.S. Hella dope

Ys 1 and 2 through EGGCONSOLE, or Ys Origin!

Like you've noted with others, it lacks a true sandbox element, but the integration of the decisions at the end of each snippet brushes shoulders with the idea. It's less effective because there's usually an explicit good or bad outcome, but there is player agency generating new world save states.

I think specifically Zero Time Dilemma out of the Zero Escape games walks this path, at least in the first 75% of it. A key component of ZTD's progression are these non-contiguous "memory fragments" from different points of view.
