To be honest, as a former bellringer, they don't sound very good. They could close the shutters while they're practising

I'd guess the bells were there first 🤔.

Could someone explain why there was a sudden huge increase in the US around 2000?
December 17, 2025 at 9:13 AM
It's a running total from 1957 (or whenever it starts), not each individual year.

This is becoming really stupid, isn't it.

Or teachers, or police, or social workers..... Why are doctors a special case? Other professions have just as stressful jobs, require high educational standards, and suffer the same burn-out rates. And none of them have been treated as generously as doctors.

I don't remember saying I was 'aggrieved' about anything. There are many pensioners who live on less than 1/3 of the basic junior doctors pay, and desperately need an increase in their pension. I don't think that argument will hold much water!

I suggest you read the comments. We can accept that doctors wages, as many others, have lost value over the last 15 years. However, they've been treated generously in comparison, they have been given concessions, and still they strike for more money, putting the public and colleagues under pressure

Maybe other workers have a stronger social conscience rather than withdrawing their labour from vulnerable people.

A perfect illustration of the 'me, me, me' attitude that is depressingly part of life today.

Glad to know junior doctors are totally uninterested in public opinion and, more importantly, the pressure their selfishness is placing on their own colleagues.

So do many other groups of workers, such as teachers, the police, social workers etc. With all the other important demands on government funding, this cannot be implemented fully in a short period. Doctors have been treated generously - they now look simply greedy.

I think it shows why professional food photographers exist!

Remember being called Remoaners when we tried to warn against all the lies and problems we were being fed - without any balanced reporting from the media?

Enjoyed that, thanks! Watching #totp over a range of years, there always seems so much more energy in the early years.

It was my husband's 80th birthday yesterday, and he had The Letter shortly before. We have had so much pleasure the last couple of weeks planning how to spend our extra bonus each month. The sky's the limit - just wait another 3 years and I'll be able to contribute my 25p as well!
