In light of the AHA's unconscionable veto of the members' vote, it's worth reading this excellent & prescient article by Hajir & Qato on how scholasticide operates (precisely via such institutional silences & silencing):

Fantastic essay from James Shapiro, “Rebels Without a Cause,” at @nybooks.com on Romeo + Juliet (directed by Sam Gold).

I question the interpretation of contemporary adaptations, which often succeed at the expense of the originalʼs tragic themes. Problematic.

Rebels Without a Cause | James Shapiro
In Sam Gold's Romeo + Juliet, the lovers' headlong rush into marriage is in tension throughout with the surprising regression to childhood that characterizes so much of the production.

Excellent essay from @manvir.bsky.social on the relationship between language and thought: “How Much Does Our Language Shape Our Thinking?”
