I think that's why I got into the habit of just...googling things even when technically I don't have to? I'm always shocked at how many factual errors I stumble across when I'm editing something, and how I usually notice simply by asking basic questions!

It blew my mind when I learned nonfiction authors have to pay for their own fact-checking. What a time to be alive.

I wish there was an established service for this. Like assign me a tailor and a stylist, I have no idea what I'm doing

You really nailed it on the "badge of honor" platitudes. It's the "thoughts and prayers" of chronic unemployment.

"Well, it was an awful place to work anyway. Good riddance!" Yeah, but I need healthcare? Yeesh.

I'm guessing most of your questions would be answered by the Chicago Manual of Style, though it's kind of a nightmare to search sometimes

Like I get it, a lot of people don't know what's happening. But just like with the police brutality videos, I think it's still important to ask ourselves what our goals are here.

At what point does this just become voyeurism?
November 7, 2025 at 5:03 PM
It didn't always bother me but it definitely strikes me as lazy and wordy now. Like it's trying to put emphasis on something that usually isn't even that important
November 7, 2025 at 2:09 PM
you mean the "it wasn't just x—it was y" thing AI does, I'm guessing?

Nobody should be claiming that media outlets "only care about profit" in 2025. There is no financial logic that makes sense here, and rarely make senses elsewhere either.

very relatable. I'm glad you're starting to heal from that mindset
November 3, 2025 at 7:25 PM
...yeah, it's hard. my brain always hyperfocuses on all the "proof" that hypervigilance pays off and completely glosses over all the times it almost got me killed
