“Fascism” isn’t a slur for politics we don’t like. It’s a precise word with precise meaning. And in the face of what’s happening right now in America, it’s the most honest one we have.

I’ll lay it out as plainly as I can. 🧵

Today is the first day of astronomical autumn, and where I live in Ohio we are definitely in ecological autumn as well. The sweetgum trees are dropping their leaves, and maples, like this sugar maple, are getting ready to. And birds are at peak migration.

I spent a lovely afternoon at Blacklick Woods Metro Park! I was able to hike 0.8 miles today. Much needed time spent in nature.

A prairie meadow with goldenrod and sunflowers stands out in the bottom third of the photo. Behind the flowers is a line of evergreen and a few small deciduous trees with muted autumn colors. Blue sky with several cumulus clouds can be seen at the very top of the photo.

Illinois State Senator Karina Villa sprang into action to protect her community from ICE raids, alerting neighbors to their rights and chasing off masked agents. This is how you stand up to authoritarianism. We should all be inspired by Sen. Villa's courage.

Today I ate a pawpaw for the first time. TIL that I do not like pawpaw, at least at first bite, tho I can see it might be an acquired taste. Sorry, Ohio!

It sure is! I say go for it!

Yesterday I did the final hem stitch on this #handwoven cloth and took it off the rigid heddle loom. The fancy row of Spanish lace doesn't look like the photo in the book, but I still like it. The cloth looks lovely, and I think it will make a nice purse.

You're welcome! I had never heard it before I went on a Wikipedia hunt the other day.

What a beautiful place you live in! I suspect that your climate is wetter overall than ours in the Midwest USA. Though some Septembers in Ohio are very wet indeed.

September 1st has never felt like fall to me. Turns out, according to the ecological calendar, the sarotinal season is roughly mid-August to mid-September. The weather tends to be dryer, leaves start turning colors, and birds prepare for migration.

An asphalt covered walking path runs bisects a deciduous forest. The leaves on the trees are fully green, while a few red and yellow dry leaves are scattered over the pavement.

My spouse is all healed from their bike accident! Today they are taking their first bike ride since the accident. Fingers crossed 🤞 that everything goes well.

🤣 Knitting is a gateway fiber habit! 🧶

Muhahahahaha join us!
Meme with sepia words on a black background. There is a spinning wheel in the lower left corner and scissors and a tape measure in the lower right corner. It reads “Working with textiles is a trap. First they lure you with knitting, then you pick up crochet. Next you start getting curious with fiber and you learn how to spin. Weaving is cool right? You now own a loom… heck, while you’re at you may as well start making your own clothes. Spinning is no longer enough for you, you need something more, you learn how to die. Dyeing is fun, but would be good to have a source of fiber. You are now a shepherd!”

I graduated from PT today, a somewhat bittersweet milestone. In the past year, Morgan has taken me from barely being able to walk across a small parking lot, to now confidently walking half a mile. I am so very grateful, and will miss her skillful coaching and guidance.
