I've hit 2,000 followers here so it's time for a progress update! I'm not even half way up the Blue Mountains Line yet, and there's a new ferry map with a few new wharves added too.

I hope you're all enjoying my adventures as much as I am and it brings good vibes to your feed!

When Sydney Metro CBD opened, the greater public, who weren't closely following the details of the project, realised for the first time what a game changer it was. The people loved it, the media loved it, and now they all want more.

Melb's Metro Tunnel looks like it's going to squander its debut?

The west exit leads to small park and a short row of attractive shops and cafes across the street, with a small supermarket.

I was impressed how vibrant the area was given most of the station's catchment is forest. It's not a big 'town' but it seems popular with tourists here to see the waterfalls.

The footbridge is sheltered and has modern glass lifts.

The east exit leads to a car park. You have to unnecessarily walk the length of the car park to get to the exit on a quiet residential street. Again it is disappointing to see missing footpaths here, common on this line. (3/4)

Inside the platform buildings are a waiting room, ticket office and amenities. It seems to be quite common on this line to have a little community library in the waiting room.

I thought it was interesting they kept the old heritage signs for the toilets, even though they have since moved. (2/4)

WENTWORTH FALLS, 103km from Central, is another charming mountains station serving a small retail strip and some low density suburbia. It has two platforms, accessed from a footbridge with lifts, several heritage brick station buildings and some landscaping on the platform (1/4)

The YIMBYs got the good seats because while the NIMBYs were outside waving signs for cameras the YIMBYs just... went inside

The provision of more housing around public transport in the Inner West is one step closer!

The north exit leads to a quiet residential street that doesn't even have a footpath.

The south exit leads to the highway, with houses on the far side. There's no pedestrian crossing here even though there's traffic lights. You have to walk up and over a bridge further down the road. Very annoying!

BULLABURRA, 98km from Central, is a quieter station serving some low-density suburbia. It has two platforms and a footbridge with no lift. The platforms are quite bare, with a brick waiting room and a second building that doesn't seem for the public. The station sits below the highway (1/2)

But how can you go to the hardware store without a massive American truck? Impossible!
sydneystations.bsky.social
There's a franchise of hardware stores across inner Sydney that don't even have car parks!

I don't think there's a city in Australia that has as much useless, often dead grass as Canberra

Was interesting how the opposition at this meeting was split between boomers resistant to change and socialists insisting more social housing. They both act like they were on the same side but they want totally opposite things!

Sydney's inner west residents pack into forum on high-rise apartment plan
Community members who showed up for the meeting on the Inner West Council's Fairer Future Plan were turned away at the door after being told the venue was full.

This story is *wild*!

Looks like maybe the balconies are all the same and they've used that wooshy pink thing to make it look more variable. A cool effect.

Yeah, they just cut the line in half and put a station concourse at each terminus.

The new Bankstown Station progressing well. Although it will suck to have to tap thru 2 gates to transfer, this big new pedestrian link is really going to open up the two halves of Bankstown's commercial core.

Also surprised they didn't have a second eastern exit from the Metro.

The south exit has ramps up to the highway and an underpass below it. Here are the shops, including a small supermarket and the pub.

There's elements of a charming old town with nice landscaping, contrasting to the modern strip-mall facing the highway. Does that still count as transit-oriented?

There's a bit of greenery on the platform. Like many stations on this line, there's also a brick storeroom on the platform. As far as I can tell, these used to be luggage rooms?

The north exit is the quieter side. It's a simple ramp up to the street, where there's a few businesses and houses. (2/3)

LAWSON, 96km from Central, serves a nice pub, a small collection of shops and some low-density suburbia. It has two platforms accessed from a pedestrian underpass. No lift, but an upgrade was just announced. It has a slightly larger heritage platform building, which once housed a signal box (1/3)
