#Kyrgyzstan: Although 15 years have passed since the deadly ethnic clashes in the south of Kyrgyzstan, wounds still have not healed and new ones added with ongoing demolitions in Osh. I write about it in my oped here: thediplomat.com/2025/06/15-y...
15 Years On, Ethnic Uzbeks Sill Face Bias in Kyrgyzstan
Several ethnic Uzbeks from Osh said that the 2010 trauma continues to inform their daily lives and that the government’s efforts have largely been ineffective.

#Kyrgyzstan: Whistleblower, Zhoomart Karabaev, convicted for exposing corruption in the country’s court system - allegations that deserved an effective and independent investigation, not prosecution and punishment of the whistleblower:

My latest piece for @inequality.org on how the platform economy runs on #inequality while sidestepping labor rights.

This isn’t about rejecting technology. It’s about making sure companies don’t hide exploitation behind an app. #ILC2025

#Russia - 81% of migrant children (many #CentralAsian) were barred from registering for Russian language proficiency test, itself a discriminatory requirement made law in December 2024. These are just the numbers since it came into force in April 2025:

HRW comes out with an incredibly detailed report on the rise in anti-migrant violence, arbitrary detention and forced military conscription of migrants in Russia

Made a small contribution to this report, but it includes some first-hand testimonies of the horrible situations faced by migrants in RU
hrw.org
In a new report, HRW documents that Central Asian migrants, mostly from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan working in Russia face ethnic profiling, arbitrary arrests, and harassment by police and private actors, including far-right nationalist groups.
Russia’s economy is heavily dependent on migrant labor. As of 2024, there were nearly 3.3 million migrants from Central Asia working in Russia.

These labor migrants have experienced increased xenophobic harassment and violence since the deadly attack attributed to Central Asians on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall in March 2024.

Additionally, they have been increasingly targeted for military recruitment, with authorities often using arbitrary detention and threats of deportation to force them to enlist.
