It’s dream-come-true time! The lovely Orcadian are publishing my collection of Orkney folklore inspired short stories - the book will be out for Autumn 2026! I can’t wait and I’m super busy creating the colour illustrations for it! #BookSky #Orkney #WritingCommunity #Folklore #ShortStories

The Long Neolithic is an ongoing conversation. The stones talk between themselves, slow exchange across centuries. The stones talk to the landscape and of course, the stones talk to us. Answering back may be the minimum level of politeness. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

Out now, The Witch’s Journey, a dark fairytale that is also an uplifting coming-of-age story, by American author Keith Miller. He describes it as “a dark fairytale embroidered with fairytales, full of sorrows and terrors, heartbreaks and delights, chocolates and mayhem and magic.”
Cover image of The Witch’s Journey by Keith Miller. Artwork by Simon Koontz. A girl with wild read hair blowing sideways in the wind is standing in front of a river which is also being whipped up by the wind. behind, the other side of the river is a silhouette of a city. the girl has pale skin, green-blue eyes and is holding a golden key to her breast in her right hand. The key has a quatrefoil design cut out of the bow. the title is above the girl in cursive capitals in a light grey-green colour. The author’s name is at the bottom of the cover below the girl’s hand in the same typeface and colour. A quote is included on the cover in white text: “A book to savor… I adored it.” attributed to Alix E. Harrow.

A tombstone in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, photographed by Andy Darby.

Note the border inscription.
Gravestone inscribed: Alistair Stephen Fabian Mitchell. 13-6-1957, 10-2-2019. Barrister of the Middle Temple. My brain, socialist. My heart, anarchist. My eyes, pacifist. My blood, revolutionary.

Around the edge, the legend: The only man in British legal history to be convicted of biting a policeman with someone else’s teeth.

I might be over seeing climate change! In previous years I don’t recall seeing the bushes around here fruit until September though. My memory is pretty dodgy though!
