i am obsessed with candles and the way they shape themselves in heat. at this age, am i still capable of shaping myself to heat and light or am i rigid and unchangeable. do i still want change? it's inevitable. how malleable am i? how malleable do i want to be? i am nothing but a seeker of light.

my husband & i live on fumes. just holding on until 65 a few years from now. I get $ from editing, mentorship, grants on the rare occasions i can get them, my substack, reviews, tax rebates. dipping into savings too. we spend as little as we can & have cut our needs to basics.
My main income is the salary I earn as a manager in a provincial health authority. I get infrequent royalties for my books (minus ~$200 CAD total on my last statements, meaning I’ll need to pay back from future sales). Advances tend to be about $1k CAD with my current publisher, paid in 2 chunks.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.
