As a primatologist, Jane Goodall was a huge inspiration to me. I admired the way she describes chimpanzee behavior with such detail and empathy, and she’s inspired so many people and advocated for chimpanzee conservation and welfare.

However, I'm dismayed at what her narrative leaves out (1/10)
Photo of Jane Goodall in the center, signing a book, with three women standing slightly hunched behind her. A very young Michelle is to the right, smiling.

A lovely story about Dr Jane Goodall's career & legacy, from Rachel Fieldhouse & Mohana Basu, in @nature.com www.nature.com/articles/d41.... Includes some comments from me about how researchers _can also_ be advocates and science communicators, and still be taken seriously (I hope)!

Vale, Jane.

Women, non-native English speakers & those form low-income countries are disadvantaged in science but by how much? We found that women with non-English first languages from low-income countries publish up to 70% fewer in English than their counterparts. 1/5

Scientific productivity gap based on English-language peer-reviewed papers. Shown are the maximum % differences in the number of peer-reviewed papers published by female native English speakers from a high-income country (-45%), female non-native English speakers from a high-income country (-60%), and female non-native English speakers from a lower-middle income country (-70%), compared to male native English speakers from a high-income country (red flag).

Researchers from #StazioneAntonDohrn and the #UniversityofPisa implemented #CAMBioMed 's monitoring protocols for temperate rocky reefs in Tuscany last week. In contrast to the Cyclades Islands (Greece), macroalgal forests were present whereas no alien herbiovores were recorded.

New paper led by @martinjung.eu presenting a protocol/tool that increases transparency in reporting Systematic Conservation Planning projects

Systematic conservation planning (SCP) has been established as key approach to identify where conservation efforts are to be prioritized. But how can they be assessed, compared or interrogated 🧐 Here we present ODPSCP, a new open protocol for the intercomparison of SCP doi.org/10.1111/csp2... (1)
An interoperable and standardized protocol for reporting systematic conservation planning projects
