No way they break up the Cascadia, SoCal, or Texas clusters, so Quakes get screwed and end up in a division with RSL and Rapids. So either "Northwest" (Cascadia-Central) and "Southwest" (SoCal-Texas), or "West" (Cascadia-SoCal) and "Central" (Central-Texas).

This flip repsonse misses the opportunity to meet the Contemplative person in a state of cognitive dissonance, and to help them connect a few dots so they can see the reasons to come over to our side to support Le Resistance.

Now, when some are starting to see the cracks in the facade, and some are beginning to question their choice of candidate, I see many of us responding with schadenfreude. "Fuck around and find out" is flung around with sadistic glee.

(IMPORTANT ASIDE) I do not fault any member of a target minority for what I am saying. This is directed at allies who appropriated the outrage instead of adopting sound influencing strategies. I'm guilty here, too.

Democrats (*especially* progressives) completely ignored the TTMoC/MI in our approach to dismantling systems of power and privilege. We lectured and condemned people who were Precontemplative or even Contemplative, instead of expressing boundaried empathy for why they might maintain these beliefs.

With defenses down, they enter Contemplation, where they are more receptive to information that might contradict their beliefs, and ultimately able to engage in pros and cons analysis.

Before a conscious commitment to change is made, a person goes through two stages. In Precontemplation, they deny the reality of the problem and defensively avoid, deflect, or counterattack. Empathy for the person's pre-existing beliefs is the only useful tool here. It softens their defenses.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a therapy model grounded in the TTMoC. Its most significant insight, in my opinion, is that trying to convince someone to change who is not ready is counterproductive.
