Japanese speakers will also do this given kanji is based on hanzi & I remember starting doing it almost intuitively when I first started learning characters 😅 Recently my Mandarin teacher was joking I write more on air when speaking than not as I struggle with intonations so hanzi helps me a lot 😅

In the Axis, Ottoman military also had Jewish soldiers [they had petitioned to serve earlier in 19th century]; jewishstudies.washington.edu/sephardic-st... This also makes me realise how Jews participated in both sides of the WWI... hadn't thought of it as such before.

Maybe because I am Turkish and thus culturally have a lot I share with both Europeans and SWANA, but the whole West and Islam discourse feels so childish & ignorant. Truth is we have been intertwined for centuries, culturally & philosophically. It is so silly to think it is a dichotomy.

It is an Abrahamic religion at the end of the day; despite their differences, there is a lot more in common in terms of theology, value frameworks, & traditions between Abrahamic/West Asian religions than others... similarly, West Asia has been a mosaic of all 3 religions for centuries.
