I remember the news breaking on Coronation Day. A very special occasion. Later I went with my father to the world premier of the film. The queen was there and all the team sitting in the front of the circle. It was in one of the big cinemas in Leicester Square. I was so excited.

At my all girls junior school in the forties we did woodwork and needlework.
At my mother’s high school just after WW1 the boys did trigonometry which she thought sounded something like algebra, and which she was very good at, but she wasn’t allowed to join them .
