I don't know why this post made me want to vent about my work but hi if you see this, don't buy your grandad a smart TV if you aren't willing/able to also teach him how to use it.

If he buys one himself, help him out. I promise it would mean the world to him, even if you can't figure it out either.

As much as I've enjoyed what I've done, I can't afford to keep it going much longer. So next year I'm gonna have to get a REAL job. Problem is, I technically have no qualifications and no degree, and entry-level jobs are disappearing.

Whether consultant is a real job or not, it ain't worth shit.

I've hosted servers, I've assisted in dev, I've built databases, but nobody comes to me for these things anymore. It's easy to assume AI, but from what I can tell they don't know how to use that either.

It's just people that need help with one specific little thing.

I made a spreadsheet and drew a seating plan for the local mayor, who I also had to teach how printers work. Somehow this also ended up with me being a bouncer for a Peaky Blinders themed party, but it was cool because he showed me his stuff from "the war" (no idea which one)

It's weird seeing the difference in how much people really know about this sort of stuff, too.

I've set up a surround sound system for an elderly couple who didn't know what WiFi was, and I've helped a model train guy who didn't know how to use google drive despite having crazy 3D models on there
