It’s going to be win/win and nuts for him if it’s 49ers vs Seahawks for the #1 in the last week of the season. And I don’t know if anyone is going to be able wrestle a prediction out of him.

The core team with Laguna and Seifer as bonuses? Nice!

Mina’s walking in front of the camera was hilarious 😆 And the things she is interested in and does! The article is wonderful and it doesn’t even mention how fantastic a painter she is, it just gets mentioned in passing…

A Trump lackey is lying out of their arse - what a shocking surprise! Maybe he’s next in line for Press Secretary?

I find it ironic that the Packers are just now getting a sense of what my team have gone through this season. They haven’t lost their equal best defensive player and HOF linebacker though. The Super Bowl is so up for grabs this year, anyone could win it

It’s the same for Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, for whom Jan 6th was the final straw and are now some of Trump’s staunchest opponents. MTG is an interesting one - becoming anti-Trump and while that coalition is big, she’s still a crazy conspiracy theorist (but at least one with integrity)

Charlie Kirk was one of the few people to have said the quiet part out loud: "It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment” (pretty sure he meant the deaths of others, not his own) www.mediamatters.org/charlie-kirk...

I really hope this stops the erosion of our gun safety laws from folks like the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party. And I see the Nationals are seeking to make themselves even more irrelevant than they already are: www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
Anthony Albanese ‘ready for the fight’ to tighten firearms laws as National party and gun groups push back
The Nationals leader, David Littleproud, claimed: ‘this isn’t a gun problem, it’s an ideology problem’

We're getting some pushback from the right wing figures who want to claim it's about ideology rather than gun control. I really hope Australians remember this during our next elections so those political parties can reap the rewards of even smaller representation in our government.

I have to confess that my immediate thought upon reading that article was "And the Darwin Award nominees are..."
December 9, 2025 at 4:41 AM
I mean when people say a date, "December 9th, 2025" makes more sense than "9th December, 2025" - the latter construction really needs to be "the 9th of December, 2025".

This is why other countries are setting up their own CDCs, and hopefully collaborating and networking to share good scientific advice and evidence and ignoring those that do not www.health.gov.au/news/austral...

Yeah, that’s a big one. Australia is the same as the UK and as a number, it makes sense - smallest to largest (day month year). I guess the American format reflects a priority order that a person might want to know? So what month? What day of that month? What year?

As an Australian, I feel like we get a lot of cultural influences from both the US and the UK. I always include the “u” in words like “colour” and “honour” but don’t mind the substitution of “z” for “s” in words like “realize”
December 8, 2025 at 11:01 PM
I had to make peace with the reality that language is descriptive rather than prescriptive when it became acceptable to use “literally” as an emphasis modifier rather than actually meaning “literally”. The irony is up there with how phonetically is not spelled phonetically.

Relatively new to the NFL, but I recognise Brady, Brees, Cousins, Purdy. Pretty sure there’s also Lamar Jackson and Drake May. Dunno who the Chargers #17 is - doesn’t look like Herbert to me. Nor do I recognise the Falcons #2

I think those things can sometimes serve as an off stage back story type thing that can tell you more about your characters are, or maybe even who they are not. Not necessarily wasted effort although definitely frustrating.

The last verse I always get a little off, but here goes

Fire on the mountain shall find the harp of gold
Played to wake the Sleepers, oldest of the old
Power from the green witch, deep beneath the sea
All shall find the Light at last; silver on the tree

It’s got such a beautiful cadence and rhythm that makes it easy to memorise:

Iron for the birthday, bronze carried long
Wood from the burning, stone out of song
Fire in the candle ring, water from the thaw
Six signs the circle and the grail gone before

Big tick for #1 and #4! Have never re-read #2 - I was just shatteringly disappointed at (a) the ending and (b) the device used to re-extend the prophecy to justify the next series, which I never finished. And while I adore the Silmarillion and LotR, #3 is a bit “meh” to me
